Reveal arrives 10 years to the day after the band’s debut.

One of the big changes in anime songs in the modern age is the rise of performances in front of the camera by singers. It is now a given that top talent will not only appear at fan events promoting individual anime, but also tour and produce videos for their most popular songs.

And for 10 years, vocal duo of animated songs ClariS put their faces there… but with their faces constantly covered with masksand sometimes also obscured by shadows.

Originally composed of two teenagers who call themselves Clear and Alice, ClariS got its start with masks and has maintained the practice ever sinceeven when Alice left the group and current member Karine took his place. The only time they were ‘seen’ without their masks was on album covers where the pair were depicted in anime-style artwork, even as their list of hits continued to grow with their contributions. music to popular franchises, including Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Oreimo, Nisemonogatariand cells at work.

Tuesday was the 10th anniversary of the band’s formation, and to mark the occasion, ClariS hosted their first online streaming concert. The even bigger first, however, came when ClariS took off her mask halfway through the concert and showed her face for the first time.

The unmasking mirrored the lyrics to a new song by the couple, “Precious,” which reads “On this special day, we want to greet everyone with our faces uncovered.”

The setlist for the concert was largely drawn from the songs included in ClariS’s greatest hits collection which went on sale on October 21 and is split into two albums (green starwhich contains “Precious”, and pink moon).

The first pressings of the albums are the first on which Claris appears in human form, and have a special two-piece transparent-section jacket that lets you remove the masks to relive the reveal whenever you want.
