Constance Wu talks about her daughter’s “Mongolian spot”
Constance Wu is ecstatic for her 9 month old daughter. The Golden Globe nominee, who stars in the Amazon Original anthology series Solos, springs from the little girl she welcomed with boyfriend Ryan Kattner in a recent appearance on Tonight’s Show with Jimmy Fallon, revealing that her daughter has full hair and a ‘blue ass’, also known as a ‘Mongolian spot’.
“I had a beautiful baby girl in August,” Wu told Fallon. “She’s the best, she’s the best. She has full hair. She has a blue ass. When asked about that blue ass, Wu confirmed that, ‘Yes, her butt is blue in color. ”
“There’s this thing, I’ve never heard of it before, but it’s called a Mongolian spot,” Wu told Fallon. “Apparently it happens in a lot of Asian babies, and my boyfriend and I are both Asian. And that’s where your butt is blue for the first two years of your life and then it goes away.”
The American Osteopathic College of Dermatology (AOCD) describes Mongolian spot, or congenital cutaneous melanocytosis, as pigmented skin lesion in newborns. The condition, which presents as a flat blue-gray or green-blue spot or cluster of spots, is essentially a type of birthmark common in Asian and Native American infants.
No treatment is necessary for congenital cutaneous melanocytosis because the spots are in no way associated with disease or cancer, according to Mount Sinai. Rather, spots are caused by cells called melanocytes, which are responsible for producing pigment, collecting in the deeper layers of the skin.
“Well, I just think that’s a very special thing,” Wu told Fallon. “And it’s not something that she can show by walking down the street – not that she is still walking. But I thought I would just like to tell you about her little blue end. It’s very special. . “
Wu revealed that his daughter’s blue ass was so special that he even inspired Kattner, who plays in the band Man Man under the stage name Honus Honus, to write a song about it. While the Solos The star didn’t go into details on the lyrical content of that song, she said fans might look for it on her boyfriend’s upcoming album.
Wu and Kattner secretly welcomed their first child together in August. In the months leading up to the child’s birth, neither Wu nor Kattner had announced that they were expecting. In fact, news of the baby’s arrival didn’t become public until December, about four months after the birth. Now, however, everyone knows Wu’s little girl and her little blue ass.
