Mitski returns with a new song “Working for the Knife”, video
It’s been over three years since Mitski released his stunning fifth album Be the cowboy (which, among many other accolades, was Vulture’s # 1 album in 2018). Since then, the singer-songwriter has taken pause touring, recording and using social media, only occasionally returning to soundtrack films and graphic novels. Now Mitski Miyawaki is well back – and after all this time, she’s still the cowboy. After teasing a song yesterday on social media, she released a new single “Working for the Knife” on October 5th. arts space The Egg), the song also draws on the intricately textured rock of Be the cowboy, rooted by the clicking, churning percussions. “I thought I would be done at 20 / Now at 29 the road seems the same / Even if maybe at 30 I’ll see a way to change”, sings Mitski, today 31 years. In a statement, she describes the song as “being faced with a world that doesn’t seem to recognize your humanity and see no way out of it.” Once the song is over, the video ends with Mitski’s awkward moment in an empty theater, throwing himself on stage without an audience.
That won’t be the case next year, when Mitski returns to the road for the first time since those 2019 shows. She is due to perform on nearly 50 dates across North America and Europe, the coup d ‘ shipping to Asheville, NC, Feb. 17. The tour will also take place at locations like the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles (March 3), Radio City Music Hall in New York (March 24) and the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville (March 31). Tickets go on sale October 8 at noon ET.
