Wanted to explore something other than film music: singer Sunidhi Chauhan
Singer Sunidhi Chauhan recently joined NewsX for a conversation as part of NewsX India’s A-List Special. She talks about her new single “ Ye Ranjishein ” and also shared information about her incredible singing journey.
Sunidhi Chauhan started by telling his side of the story, explaining why it took 20 years to release his new single and said, “Yeah, I know that sounds weird, right? I didn’t want it to be that way. But in fact, film music usually kept me busy. So I didn’t have time to think about what I wanted to do apart from film music. During this lockdown, do I sit down and think about what I want to say in my own song? Because film music will keep happening and I’m a product of film music and love it, but on the one hand I wanted to explore something different and just met the right people at the right moment. It was during the lockdown and I’m glad something definitely had something productive come out of it.
Asked about her new song, she began by congratulating the director of the clip, Ranju Varghese and said: “The merit of the clip is totally our director. We shot in barren land, there was nothing that could be seen from too far away. I don’t know how he put it all together on the editing table and it looks so brilliant right now. None of these things were there during filming except for some properties. There was nothing and he really brought it to life and did a fabulous job. I met Shruti Rane, who is this amazing young composer and who sings very well, through Gaurav Dasgupta, a friend of mine with whom I worked. He is a music composer himself and I really enjoyed singing for him. So I thought he might be meeting me for a song he composed and Shruti is one of the singers he introduces to me, but when I found out it was his song written by her as a songwriter. I was blown away, she is a very sweet and cute little girl and I didn’t think a serious song was coming out of her. I was really taken aback and complimented her and thought to myself, let’s do this song.
She urged people to be more responsible in these difficult times and said, “Through the song I send all the good vibes, positivity, love and prayers. Of course we are losing a lot of people and these are crazy times. I ask everyone watching right now to be a little more responsible you are doing really well but I think we need more as this has hit us for the second time now and this wave is even more dangerous. He’s almost in the air now, we need to be more responsible and take care of each other. And you just have to wear a mask properly. That’s all”
Speaking of how she managed to overcome the obstacles she faced over the past year, she described, “We were just grooming, mopping and washing up around the house, and nothing else. And a few songs here and there. Who were home taped for movies. Because even the movies were closed, no one was really working, but whatever happened it was this and then when I started to get used to the new normal, which was to stay home and to do nothing and the days just went by OTT and housework and that’s it and of course a kid to look after. Then finally I had a space for myself where I could think about the fact that I have to do something other than music. I’m a film music product, of course, and I love it.
“Thanks to the lockdown, it gave me a little place where I could think about who I want to work for. As I did a single with Shalmali recently, it’s an English song called here is beautiful. I did a song, A non-cinematic song with Daboo Malik and he was the first one to approach me during that time for me to sing a non-cinematic song and I did that and it was an attempt so humble. We couldn’t even make a great video of it. We just shot a few portions at home and made a video but got a really good response which gave me a boost to keep walking in that direction. And now I’m with three songs already released and I’m very excited, I plan to do a lot more songs not songs because it’s like a little different side of me that comes only from the heart ” , she added.
She also shared her defining moments in her career and said, “I was lucky to receive a lot of love and a trophy, of course, because I won this competition, which was produced by Lata ji . And I had been on this show, because I wanted to see it once in my whole life and I didn’t know if it was ever going to happen. But luckily, I won the competition. And it was she who gave me this trophy. So it was a moment that I can never forget. Of course, then my child who completely changed my life. Now I am very happy with this new independent space. So I think it’s a rebirth. I really feel that.
