WATCH: My outdoor cat snack was a disaster
Today is the last episode of Please make my cats famous!
Last week, Ramona Julia Sucgang-Bonoan helped Astro get back in shape. This time we have a fashion artist and Omi Omi founder Naomi nikola to help us organize an outdoor tea party.
Right off the bat, I already knew that I wanted our finale to feature both Astro and Onion, and I wanted this episode to be especially cute. That’s why I chose Naomi, who is also an animal lover, to be our guest.
I first met Naomi at a Kawaii PH event years ago when I was in college, when the kawaii the fashion movement was still emerging here. It wasn’t really new at the time, but it is felt new and full of possibilities. FRUITS magazine, which chronicled daily Japanese street fashion, was still in print at the time. It was also relatively weird and the few of us who dressed him tended to cling to each other.
This whole vibe was what I wanted to recreate with the boys, but it didn’t work out.
The picnic involved a lot of moving parts. I had to get myself a pet cake Cooking and baking for pets for children, as well as picnic food from Three-seater café for myself. For our outfits, I had cute little matching star harnesses for the boys and a Selkie dress for me. Since this shoot was outdoors, I also had to wait for the weather to clear up – on the first day of shooting (yes it took several days) I had just carried the cats to our roof when the rain came in. started to fall.
About transporting the cats as well: the elevator in my building does not go to the roof, so I had to carry both their stroller and our picnic crate up a staircase. Astro, if you remember the Last episode, weighs 12 pounds. It was a exercise.
When we finally got to the rooftop on day two, we weren’t the only ones. There was a man exercising outside which means some of our shots showed a random man pulling weights in a corner.
All that aside, however, I was excited. I had anticipated all of these things before, and thought that as long as I got past them, I would have a nice outdoor snack with my sons.
They had a different idea.
I arranged our food on a pink blanket near some flowers. I had a cute Le Creuset pet bowl to put their cake on, which I found really adorable. I opened their stroller, expecting them to jump right away to devour their food. Nothing like that happened.
Instead, the kids dug even deeper into their strollers. When I tried to pull them out and place them right next to the cake, Onion immediately jumped onto his pink stroller while Astro tried to escape and explore the rest of the rooftop. It was a mess.
Still, I persevered, even trying to put their cake inside the stroller to force them to eat it there. It was a bad idea, and eventually the cake toppled, the cats still not having warned him.
I wanted the final to be perfect and special, and to be honest I think the challenge was such a spectacular mess it was perfect and special in its own way. Even though I was extremely stressed about the shoot, looking back it was a fitting conclusion to this series. No, cats haven’t become famous, but does it matter? I spent months filming my cats being cute and talking to people about how cute my cats are. We won.
That’s it for this series from me, Onion and Astro! I am tired.
