William DuVall joins the Drone Metal icon on Dark New Benefit Song
Alice in Chains frontman William DuVall has teamed up with drone / stoner / doom metal icon and Southern Lord Records founder Greg Anderson on a dark and ritualistic new song “We Who Walk In Light” under the nickname of The Lord.
Anderson, best known for his work in metal drone band Sunn O))), along with other underground favorites Goatsnake, Burning Witch, Thorr’s Hammer and more, plays low beats imbued with his warm tones. These sit under a rippling guitar lead as delicate but tribal percussion guides the mystical vision in tandem with Du’Vall’s sharper voice providing respite amid tribal vocal chants.
“‘We Who Walk In Light’ came to me. I just reacted to the music Greg sent, followed and arranged all of my parts at home alone. DuVall started, talking about his contributions to the track by Anderson. native of Seattle.
“Luckily my wife wasn’t in town at the time as she might have been a bit confused by some of the sounds emanating from the basement,” the singer joked and concluded, “It’s basically a choir of Heavy metal Buddhist monks with Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan is flying for an appearance. I’m sure that channels some of the tension of the present day. “
All proceeds from the song will be donated to Jail Guitar Doors, which is, as stated on their website, a “non-profit organization providing musical instruments and mentorship to help rehabilitate incarcerated people through the transformative power of the music “. Learn more about the cause here.
“I was happy to be invited by the Lord to collaborate and I am happy to donate the profits to my friend, Brother Wayne Kramer’s organization, Jail Guitar Doors,” DuVall enthused.
